DUCHESNE, Utah (AP) — A Duchesne County woman accused of leaving her 3-year-old son in a cold car while she and her boyfriend were inside a bar for over two hours has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of child abandonment.
Sheriff's deputies found 22-year-old Sara Eitel's child asleep in a car outside the bar on April 13. According to charging documents, the engine was not running and the temperature was about 50 degrees.
A deputy entered the bar, where he said Eitel and her boyfriend eventually stepped forward to claim responsibility for the boy.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/1nFdahk ) that under a plea bargain, Eitel's guilty plea made Friday in 8th District Court will be held in abeyance for two years.
The charge will be dismissed if she pays a $750 court fee, abstains from alcohol use and has no new criminal violations.
