WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — An off-duty New York police officer is being hailed as a hero after saving a person from a fiery crash at a gas station.
Surveillance video released by the Westchester County Police shows John Vescio pumping gasoline into his unmarked police car when another car crashes into the gas station area, hitting a car and a gas pump and starting a major fire.
Vescio, a senior state police investigator according to The Journal News, immediately reacted.
“It happened so quick,” Vescio told The Journal News. “It was hard to think. I pretty much reacted.”
Knowing there was ammunition and a weapon in his unmarked car, he urged people to move away from the scene.
