SALT LAKE CITY — Police are asking for the public's help to find a man suspected of stealing a bicycle and a car from secure parking garages.

Investigators believe the thief used a universal remote that gave him access to the parking garages. He may also be using a lock-out kit to access vehicles and steal them or items inside them, police said in a news release.

The man is suspected of five thefts, two that were caught on video.

  • On May 26, a man stole a bike from a parking garage at 115 S. 1100 East.
  • On May 31, a man stole a 2008 black Subaru Tribeca from the parking garage at 960 E. 100 South between 5 - 6 a.m. Officers later recovered the stolen car in the Avenues.

The thief is described as 20 to 35 years old, wearing a white jacket, black hat and carrying a black backpack. Anyone with information should call 801-799-3000.
