SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Health officials say an adult from southeastern Utah tested positive for measles in May.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported the case Tuesday.
State epidemiologist Melissa Goebel tells the Salt Lake Tribune (http://bit.ly/1uU8Opw) one case of the disease qualifies as an outbreak because it is highly contagious.
The individual didn't undergo all the necessary immunizations before traveling in Europe, and came home with the disease.
Rebecca Ward of the Utah Department of Health says this is relatively common in summertime.
But the traveler didn't spread the disease to relatives or close contacts.
In Utah, children must receive two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine before entering school.
Ward recommends adults make sure they are up-to-date on their shots, especially if they have plans to travel.
