WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama is remembering Maya Angelou (MY'-uh AN'-juh-loh) as the first person who let her know she could be a strong, powerful and smart black woman. Speaking at Angelou's memorial service in a chapel at Wake Forest University, Obama said reading Angelou's poem "Phenomenal Woman" changed a little black girl whose first doll was Malibu Barbie by celebrating "black women's beauty like no one had ever dared to before." Angelou died last week at 86.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — A publicist for comedian-actor Tracy Morgan says the "30 Rock" star remains in critical condition after a fatal six-vehicle pileup on the New Jersey Turnpike. A limousine bus carrying the former "Saturday Night Live" cast member and six other people overturned at about 1 a.m. after Morgan performed standup at a show in Delaware. One passenger died. Three others, including Morgan, were critically injured. Spokesman Lewis Kay tells The Associated Press that Morgan's family doesn't expect much change in his condition today.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Judges in two Wisconsin counties are marrying gay couples for a second day following a federal judge's ruling overturning the state's same-sex marriage ban. More than 60 couples were married in Milwaukee and Dane counties yesterday, as courthouses stayed open late following the judge's decision. Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen insists the ruling did not clear the way for same-sex marriages to begin. He has sought an emergency order in federal court to stop more marriage licenses from being issued.

PARIS (AP) — Maria Sharapova has won her second French Open title in three years, overcoming some shaky serving to beat fourth-seeded Simona Halep (HAL'-ehp) 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-4 in the final. Sharapova also won the title at Roland Garros in 2012, but lost in last year's final to Serena Williams. Halep was ranked 57th a year ago, but came into this year's French Open as the fourth seed. The Romanian was playing in her first major final.

LARGO, Md. (AP) — Officials in Maryland say a second man has been charged with blowing up soda bottles at movie theaters in the Washington area. Prince George's County fire officials say 23-year-old Michael Hollingsworth was arrested yesterday and charged with two felonies in connection with a "bottle bomb" detonation at a theater in Largo. The first suspect is facing felony charges in both Maryland and Virginia.
