CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — There's another pause in the drawn-out, international search for the missing Malaysian airliner. The underwater search for Flight 370, which zeroed in on the southern Indian Ocean, will be suspended for a couple months while more powerful sonar equipment is brought in to examine a much broader area.

DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) — An Associated Press reporter says a Ukrainian military helicopter has been shot down by rebels over Slovyansk in eastern Ukraine. The AP reporter witnessed the helicopter's downing amid Thursday's fighting in the city. It wasn't immediately clear what weapons the rebels used to shoot it down, where the helicopter fell or what happened to its crew.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin is touting a newly formed Eurasian Economic Union as a way for Moscow to bolster its business ties with Belarus and Kazakhstan, two former Soviet bloc countries. He discussed the new alliance in Kazakstan's capital, Astana, saying the pact takes cooperation among the countries to a higher level without compromising the countries' sovereignty.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Members of Congress are pushing for answers in the wake of revelations the Obama administration has released from prison roughly 36,000 people convicted of crimes who are also in the U.S. illegally. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh (jay) Johnson goes to Capitol Hill later today to appear at a hearing where lawmakers are expected to question him sharply about the releases.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Opening statements are expected to begin today in a lawsuit brought by beating victim Bryan Stow against the Los Angeles Dodgers and the team's former owner, Frank McCourt. A jury has been seated for the civil negligence case in a Los Angeles courtroom. Stow's lawyer says his client was beaten by two men at Dodgers Stadium in April 2011 because he was wearing a Giants shirt. Stow suffered brain damage and is permanently disabled.
