JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Republican U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran calls it "unfortunate" and "sort of bizarre" that someone photographed his ailing wife in a nursing home and posted her image online in a political video against him.

Cochran spoke to reporters Friday outside a campaign event in Jackson.

WAPT-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1nk2ckt ) Cochran says he trusts authorities who are investigating the incident. He says people at the nursing home are worried about their reputation, but he thinks "everybody is trying to do the right thing."

A conservative blogger and three others are charged in what police call a conspiracy to take unauthorized photos of 72-year-old Rose Cochran, who has dementia.

State Sen. Chris McDaniel is challenging Cochran in the June 3 Republican primary.

McDaniel says his campaign had nothing to do with the photos.
