SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake FantasyCon descends on Utah in July with myriad talented actors, artists and authors responsible for whisking fans into the world of fantasy.

The three-day fest will feature performers who love and create fictional universes that are popular among fantasy fans.

For the first time ever, actor Simon Pegg ("Star Trek," "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol") will be appearing at a convention, FantasyCon programmers announced today.

“Simon’s appearance at the very first FantasyCon speaks volumes about the caliber of artists attending this convention,” Josh Patel, founder of FantasyCon said in a release. “It’s rare that Simon makes this type of public appearance, and we are incredibly honored that he has agreed to join us.”

Pegg joins an impressive lineup of performers who have had roles in various fantasy movies and TV shows. The con will also play host to Billy Boyd, who played hobbit Pippin Took in “The Lord of the Rings,” and John Rhys-Davies, who played Gimli in the same film.

Mark Pelligrino and Mark Sheppard, both from “Supernatural” will attend, as will Rose McGowan of “Once Upon A Time” and Doug Jones of “Falling Skies.” There are a number of actors who play dwarves in “The Hobbit” trilogy are slated to attend. For a complete list, go to the official website of FantasyCon.

FantasyCon is a unique convention, because rather than open the floor to vendors and exhibitors, the con has used their space to provide archery lessons, swordfighting, LARPing and fantasy-world food. A 25-foot castle, costume contests with cash prizes, and a three-story dragon will also be available for photo ops and to help immerse guests in the fantasy universe.
