HAMMOND, La. (AP) — The Hammond City Council has approved a resolution of support for Tangi Academy, a proposed charter school.
The Daily Star reports (http://bit.ly/1oeulXd ) this was the second time school officials came to the council. At its last meeting May 6, the council tabled the matter, saying members wanted more information on the school.
Tony Maska, president of Tangi Academy's board, said he emailed all five councilmen prior to Tuesday's meeting with information on the school. He said he did not get any questions.
On May 29, academy leaders will meet with officials from the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to try to get state approval.
The Tangipahoa Parish School Board has twice declined to allow the school to move forward.
