A neighbor saw flames shooting out the top story around 2:00 this morning, and by the time firefighters arrived, the large home was fully engulfed.

Firefighters went inside the home to try and put the blaze out, but the heat was so intense that they realized they had to go into defensive mode. They declared the blaze a two-alarm fire and called in more crews, but the flames still destroyed this home.

It was 6000 sq ft. four story million dollar home. It was far from being complete, and the firefighters say now it's a total loss.

The owners of the home were planning on moving from Herriman at the end of the month. They also have a baby on the way.

Mike Yanci, Homeowner: "What do you say? It has been a little over a year. It was a house that we designed. We were really excited to move in with the baby."

Tom Hasleton, Witness: "Came up the roof and the backside of the roof. Blew out the backside of the house. Flames over 30 feet over the top of the home, so it was pretty impressive. Devastating definitely, for the whole neighborhood. And it's a loss for homeowner, builder, and everybody."

Firefighters worried the flames could spread to other homes, including others under construction. But with more resources called in, fortunately that didn't happen.
