Weber County — Two inmates walked away from an assigned work crew Friday, and one is still missing.
Samuel Peter Atchley and Joseph Wayne Cook were on assignment at the Weber County Animal Shelter, when they walked away Friday morning around 9 a.m., the Weber County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the Sheriff’s office, they walked to Harrisville City, attempted to steal a bike in front of a residence on 1600 North, but were confronted by the homeowner.
They fled when a neighbor called authorities. Officers from the Harrisville Police Department apprehended Atchley, but Cook was not located.
Wahlquist Jr. High School and Pioneer Elementary went into lockdown while officials searched the area for Cook. Police said it is likely Cook made his way to Ogden City, and police are requesting a warrant for his arrest.
Cook, 27, is described as a white male around 5 feet 9 inches and 145 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information regarding Cook’s whereabouts can contact the Weber Consolidated Dispatch Center at (801) 629-8221.
