NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) — Delaware State Police say a high school teacher has been charged with having sex with a 17-year-old student.
Twenty-seven-year-old Jerry Shorts of Wilmington was arrested Friday and charged with sexual abuse of a child by a person of trust, and one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Troopers say officials at the Delaware Academy of Public Safety and Security contacted them in March about allegations that a teacher was having sex with a female student.
Police say and investigation determined that Shorts had sexual encounters with the student beginning in October.
