(KSL News) -- West Valley City residents met tonight to discuss the future of Granger Elementary. The city is trying to redevelop the area near 2400 West and 3800 South. It's currently home to Granger Elementary.
The city plans to build a shopping center there, and also has plans for a new Granger Elementary in 2008. Costco says it wants to build sooner and brokered a tentative deal with the city.
Christine Wilkins, PTA President, Granger Elementary: "I want this to be a good thing. I want it to be win-win, but I, you know, hear a lot of stuff."
City planners want to share tax revenue with the school district to provide funding for the new Granger Elementary. West Valley says Costco will play a vital roll.
Paul Isaac, Acting City Manager, West Valley City: "We need this development desperately because of the revenue this is gonna generate."
The city is working with the district to move students to vacant Wilson Elementary during construction.
