Tonya Papanikolas ReportingToday was not a day you wanted to be without air conditioning. People across the valley were trying to beat the record heat.
Since school is out for some, a lot of kids are now flocking to the pools and fountains. The younger and older kids all seem to love the water. It's often the first thing they think of on a hot day.
When school gets out and the weather turns hot, more and more people head to Lagoon. Once there, they spend a lot of time at Laguna Beach.
Trent Brown, Lagoon Marketing Manager: "Our attendance begins to climb. We see that. And as it gets hotter, most of the time, what you'll see is there will be an increase in wait time to get wet."
The water park packs as many people in as they can on hot days. Lagoon's entrance even offers patrons a way to stay cool.
It seems fountains are a popular summer spot throughout the valley. A new splash pad in Herriman caters to younger kids. Water bubbles out of palm trees, dumps out of colorful buckets and sprays out of a rainbow.
While the moms try to stay cool under cover, the kids don't even think about the heat.
Gabriel McDonald, Enjoying the Heat: "It's fun to get out here, cuz usually you're sitting at home watching TV or happy to get out of school."
Ami Anderson, Mother: "I have young children. My son does not like the pool. It scares him. Plus, this to me is not dangerous to them. They can get out, they can play."
Tiffany Norris, Mother: "It's a perfect opportunity cuz I can watch them all at once instead of going to the pool. So we're wearing them out, having a fun day. It's real hot outside."
The Herriman splash pad just opened on Memorial Day. It's open to the public. It's located at 5600 W. 14400 South.
