Nevada rancher says US may have damaged his cows
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada rancher says he's trying to determine whether federal agents damaged any of his cattle before they released hundreds of rounded-up bovines in a showdown with angry protesters over the weekend.
Bureau of Land Management Director Neil Kornze says the agency released the cattle to avoid a potentially violent situation in a decades-long dispute over states' rights and grazing on public lands. He says Cliven (KLEYE'-vihn) Bundy owes more than $1 million in grazing fees for trespassing on federal lands since the 1990s.
The BLM suspended the roundup Saturday after armed militia members joined hundreds of states' rights protesters at the scene.
Nevada Assemblywoman Michele Fiore says she fears some of the calves that were seized won't survive because they were separated from their mothers.
SERIAL MURDERS-ARRESTS
2 sex offenders charged with rapes, killings
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Two registered sex offenders who have known each other since at least 2012 have been charged with raping and killing four California women since last year.
The Orange County District Attorney's office said Monday that 27-year-old Franc Cano and 45-year-old Steven Dean Gordon were each charged with four felony counts of special circumstances murder and four felony counts of rape.
Anaheim Chief Raul Quezada said Monday they were both wearing ankle monitors last fall when the women were killed in Anaheim and Santa Ana.
If convicted, the men could face a minimum sentence of life without parole or the death penalty.
Cano and Gordon are being held without bail and are scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
Both men were arrested Friday on suspicion of killing the women beginning in October.

Feds charge woman in Hillary Clinton shoe-throw
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities have filed federal charges against a Phoenix woman accused of throwing a shoe on stage while Hillary Rodham Clinton gave a convention speech.
The trespassing and violence charges lodged Sunday against Alison Michelle Ernst in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas come as local prosecutors consider a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge in state court.
Ernst didn't respond to a phone message Monday, and it isn't clear if she has a lawyer.
The 36-year-old faces a June 24 court date on the local charge, which could get her six months in county jail stemming from the incident Thursday.
A court date in the federal case wasn't immediately set.
Clinton wasn't struck by the shoe. She continued her speech to a recycling industry conference at the Mandalay Bay resort.

Flavor Flav takes plea deal in Vegas battery case
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Entertainer Flavor Flav has pleaded guilty to reduced charges in a Las Vegas domestic violence case in a move that will avoid a trial and possible jail time.
The 55-year-old rapper and reality TV star acknowledged Monday in Clark County District Court that he wielded a kitchen knife during an October 2012 argument at home with his longtime girlfriend's 17-year-old son.
A judge sentenced him to probation and four more months of domestic violence counseling.
The clock-wearing entertainer's legal name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr.
He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of attempted battery that could have caused substantial injury and battery constituting domestic violence.
Drayton had been facing felony assault and child endangerment with a weapon charges that could have gotten him up to 12 years in prison.
His next court date is Aug. 18.

Northern Nevada camper finds body in shallow grave
FALLON, Nev. (AP) — A camper has discovered a body buried in a shallow grave off the highway in northern Nevada.
Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter told KOLO-TV that the body was discovered Saturday night by a camper who climbed a hill to watch the sunset. The body was found near Interstate 80.
The body has been taken to the Washoe County Medical Examiner to determine a cause of death.
The victim, who appeared to be an adult man, has not yet been identified.
BEHEADED BIRD-VEGAS
Court date reset in Vegas Strip bird death case
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A court appearance was postponed Monday in Nevada for a University of California, Berkeley, law school graduate completing prison boot camp for beheading an exotic bird during a drunken chase at a Las Vegas Strip resort.
Prosecutor Frank Coumou says Justin Alexander Teixeira's court date was rescheduled to May 5.
Teixeira is facing three to five years' probation before he can ask to have his felony conviction reduced to a misdemeanor.
Whether Teixeira is admitted to practice law in California could on depend on whether a felony remains on his record.
He pleaded guilty last May to killing another person's animal in the October 2012 death of a helmeted guineafowl at the Flamingo hotel-casino.
Two other Berkeley students entered pleas to reduced misdemeanor charges, paid fines and served community service.
