PROVIDENCE CANYON, Cache County — A single, unoccupied vehicle that was in a rollover accident was found by Cache County Sheriff’s deputies in Providence Canyon around 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Deputies responded to a report of a 1990’s model Mazda pickup nearly two miles up the canyon that had rolled 12 feet off the road. Investigators identified the owner as 40-year-old Mark Hedin of Nibley, Utah.

Hedin was not found in or near his vehicle. Initial concern from the Cache County Sheriff’s department was that Hedin was more severely injured due to the condition of the vehicle.

Police contacted Hedin's family, and they said it was very likely Hedin who had driven off the road, police said. However, no one had heard from him.

After police searched the area for approximately two hours, Hedin reappeared at his home. He had a minor head injury and was complaining of pain in his torso. He was taken to Cache Valley Hospital.

Further investigation revealed alcohol was a factor in the crash, police said,

The case is still under investigation with criminal charges pending.
