MURRYSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — There's been a stabbing attack at a high school near Pittsburgh, where an official says four students are believed to have been seriously hurt. The official says as many as 20 students, in all, were hurt, including some who suffered scrapes and cuts in the mayhem that erupted at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville. The county emergency management spokesman says it doesn't appear that any students suffered life-threatening injuries. The suspect is described as a male student. He was taken into custody and is being questioned.
MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin is threatening to make Ukraine pay for gas in advance from Russia's state-owned gas company. Russia has tightened the economic screws on Ukraine since its Russian-leaning president Viktor Yanukovych (yah-noo-KOH'-vich) was ousted from power in February after months of street protests. Last week, Gazprom said it would be scrapping all discounts on gas to Ukraine, meaning a 70 percent price hike.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — An Afghan election official says national elections held last weekend were a success in terms of turnout and enthusiasm, but he cautions that the amount of fraud was not insignificant. The announcement came as ballots are still being counted. Millions of Afghans voted for a new president and provincial councils in what promises to be the country's first democratic transfer of power.
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are higher for a second day, after ending a three-day slump yesterday. Later today, the Fed will release minutes from its March interest-rate meeting.
STORRS, Conn. (AP) — It's been another night of partying on the University of Connecticut campus, after the school's second national basketball championship in less than 24 hours. The women's team beat Notre Dame last night, 79-to-58, in Nashville to capture a record ninth national title. A day earlier, the men's team beat Kentucky for their fourth NCAA title. Campus police say last night's crowds were more subdued than on Monday night, when there were dozens of arrests -- mostly for alcohol-related offenses and minor vandalism.
