PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) — It's been an emotional day on the witness stand for Oscar Pistorius at his trial in South Africa in the shooting death of his girlfriend. The double-amputee track star broke down in sobs and howls while testifying today, forcing the court to adjourn. Pistorius was describing the moments he said he first realized that he had shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through a bathroom door in his home last year. He has said he mistook her for an intruder. Prosecutors say he shot her deliberately after an argument.

NEW YORK (AP) — After a three-day slump, stocks are steady in the early minutes of trading today. The market yesterday extended a sell-off that began last week. It's Wall Street's longest losing streak in two months. Investors this week will start to focus on company earnings.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The International Monetary Fund says the global economy is getting stronger -- but it's facing some threats. The lending organization says those threats include super-low inflation, and a flow of capital out of emerging economies. The IMF expects the global economy to grow 3.6 percent this year and 3.9 percent next year, up from 3 percent last year.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israel's high court is upholding a decision to prevent an Olympic runner from leaving the Gaza Strip to take part in a marathon. The move highlights Israel's tight restrictions on travel in and out of the territory, which is ruled by Hamas. Nader Masri, who took part in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, had hoped to run in a marathon in Bethlehem on Friday. But his request to leave Gaza was rejected by Israel's defense minister.

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Students at the University of Connecticut are hoping they have another reason to celebrate tonight. The women's basketball team is playing for its ninth national title against Notre Dame in Nashville. Last night, the men's team beat Kentucky, 60-to-54, in the NCAA title game. Campus police and state police made dozens of arrests overnight as crowds smashed a window in an engineering building, broke street lights and overturned furniture inside the school's student union.
