CHRIS BROWN TRIAL IN D.C. TO GO FORWARD

WASHINGTON (AP) — Chris Brown and his bodyguard are both going on trial in Washington D.C. for assault. That may not be big news — since it wasn't expected that a judge would dismiss the case yesterday, despite a defense request. What is new is that the men are going to be tried separately on the charge. The judge has ordered that Brown and bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy will have separate turns before a judge on the assault charge they both face. The bodyguard's trial will go first, then Brown's starting on April 17. Hollosy is expected to testify during Brown's trial that he is the one who punched the man. Prosecutors say Brown first punched the man when he tried to get in a picture Brown was taking with two women — then the bodyguard landed a second blow.

BLAKE SHELTON USES LAST STEAL ON "THE VOICE"

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Blake Shelton used his last steal to snatch away Madilyn Paige from Team Usher on "The Voice." Shelton told her he believed in her as an artist but now he has to turn her into a performer. Usher chose to keep Bria Kelly and Melissa Jimenez for his team. Team Blake also keeps Ryan Whyte Maloney. Dani Moz (MOHZ) will move on with Team Shakira. Adam Levine says Kat Perkins has a commanding presence, so she'll continue with his team. He also decided to take a risk on Jake Barker, who has little stage experience but Levine says Barker has a quality that makes him want to see more.

DARIUS RUCKER SINGS ANTHEM AT NCAA TITLE GAME

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Darius Rucker got a reminder of his past when he took the floor to sing the national anthem at last night's NCAA men's basketball championship game. As he was being introduced, one fan at Cowboys Stadium shouted out "Hootie!" Before turning to country music, Rucker was the frontman for Hootie and the Blowfish. He has since released three country music albums.

SELENA GOMEZ INTRUDER FACES FELONY RAP

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Most people would understand what the term "stay away" means. But apparently that doesn't include a man who is now facing felony charges for allegedly getting too close to Selena Gomez. Che Cruz has been charged with felony stalking — and with violating a court order to stay away from the singer and actress. Cruz has pleaded not guilty, and his bail has been set at $160,000. He was arrested Friday after returning to Gomez's home in California — just hours after being released from jail in a case in which he was ordered to keep his distance. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison.

ABBA MARKS 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF FIRST HIT

LONDON (AP) — Can you believe that it has been 40 years since ABBA first made the music scene with the song "Waterloo?" If you saw pictures of what they looked like back in the day, your answer would probably be yes — based on their bell-bottomed pants, long hair and lack of natural fibers in their outfits. The members of the group got together yesterday to mark the milestone in London. And Frida Lyngstad says she's proud of the group's look. She says they were young, got to dress themselves — and had fun doing it. She says artists outfits are even more outlandish these days they were in the 70s. So what made ABBA so successful? Lyngstad says there was no formula — just four people doing what they loved to do most.

''DUELING BANJOS" WRITER DIES

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The man who wrote "Dueling Banjos" has died. The Charlotte Observer reports Arthur Smith died Thursday at his home at the age of 93. Smith recorded a song called "Feudin' Banjos" in 1955. The song was used in the film "Deliverance" but credited as "Dueling Banjos" and did not give any credit to Smith. He filed a lawsuit and got a substantial settlement. Smith also recorded an instrumental called "Guitar Boogie" that influenced many musicians including Tom Petty, Eric Clapton and Glen Campbell. Paul McCartney played "Guitar Boogie" as one of his first songs with The Quarrymen, who later became The Beatles.

WOMAN WITH MEASLES ATTENDS KINGS OF LEON CONCERT

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — People who went to the Kings of Leon concert in Seattle may have taken home an unintended souvenir. The Washington State Department of Health reports a woman in her 20s attended the March 28 show while contagious with measles. She also visited Seattle's Pike Place, a few bakeries, some department stores and other locations in the city. Officials say anyone who was in that area should check if they've been vaccinated for measles or see a doctor if they come down with a fever or rash.

B.B. KING GIVES FANS THE BLUES WITH ERRATIC PERFORMANCES

ST. LOUIS (AP) — He's a legendary blues guitarist. But at the age of 88, the way B.B. King is giving some fans the blues is becoming a problem for music lovers. He continues to tour — and sometimes his age and illness shows. He performed this past Friday in St. Louis — and some fans were none too pleased. Some left early after King performed just a few snippets of some songs, rambled on between others — and had difficulty playing and keeping up with his band. One fan says while he sees King as a "living legend" and admires the man and his music, he was disappointed to shell out $150 to see him and not get a full show. Some music fans say aging acts like King should get some slack from fans because of their stature — not heckled for being slowed by time.
