(KSL News) -- A couple nearly drowned on the Jordan River this afternoon, but a pair of young women pulled them out.

The witnesses were rollerblading on the parkway when they heard a man call for help. The couple went over a small waterfall on a raft, and were sucked under.

Ashley Vizina, Rescuer: "He was kind of holding onto the branches and holding onto her. She was totally in the river. And so I just gave them a stick they pulled on the stick to get out the gentlemen we both just helped her and it was like pulling dead weight."

Autumn Ringwood, Rescuer: "A little scary; we had a friend who wanted to go down the river on a raft and now we're not going to. No thanks."

The couple was taken to the hospital. No word on their conditions.

There has already been one drowning in that area this year and another close call for a kayaker.
