SANDY — Two schools were briefly instructed to "shelter in place" after three separate sightings of a large cat were reported Tuesday, officials said.
Edgemont Elementary School and Eastmont Middle School were instructed to shelter in place for a short period of time during the morning, but the security measures have since been lifted. The schools are now functioning normally, according to the Sandy Police Department.
The Utah Division of Wildlife Services reported that there have been three separate sightings of the animal. They are currently going door-to-door and checking open fields.
The three people who said they spotted the animal thought it was a mountain lion.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
