Halcyon Incubator Opens Application Process for Inaugural Class of
Social Entrepreneurs
WASHINGTON, March 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Halcyon
Incubator, a unique and forward-thinking social entrepreneur incubator
program, today announced the opening of the application process for
its inaugural class of fellows.
The Halcyon Incubator is the S&R Foundation's newest and boldest
venture to empower true social change throughout the nation and the
world. The Incubator will provide social entrepreneurs with a 12-to
16-month fellowship, comprised of a four-month residency, eight months
of rent-free workspace, complimentary strategic, legal and PR
resources, mentorship, as well as access to a network of potential
funders from all sectors.
"The challenges facing our nation and world require a new way of
thinking, fearless approaches and a collaborative support system to
achieve measurable social change," said S&R Foundation COO, Kate
Goodall. "The Halcyon Incubator pulls on the rich and diverse
communities that define Washington, D.C. and engenders an unrivaled
opportunity to incubate transformational social ventures in the
nation's capital."
Partnering with prestigious organizations and institutions such as
Georgetown University, and leveraging an advisory and mentor committee
of leading public and private sector stakeholders, the Halcyon
Incubator assists fellows in transforming innovative ideas that have
the capacity to change the world into scalable ventures.
"The Halcyon Incubator's risk-tolerant environment encourages
individuals with audacious ideas to apply to the program," said S&R
Foundation CEO Dr. Sachiko Kuno. "Applicants aren't required to know
if their idea will spawn a for-profit, non-profit or government
solution, but simply be committed to applying new thinking to empower
social change."
Fellows at the Halcyon Incubator will live and work at the historic
Halcyon House, an 18th century home located in the heart of Georgetown
and renovated to create a inspiring space for social entrepreneurs.
Unlike other start-up incubators, the Halcyon Incubator does not
require equity in the fellow's venture, but only a commitment to
growing ideas to achieve social change.
Applications and details on the program can be found here and the
first class will begin on September 1, 2014.
