SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is moving some missionaries out of Venezuela because of political unrest.
In a statement, the church said 152 missionaries who are not Venezuelan citizens are being reassigned to other missions in South America.
"Venezuelan missionaries are in frequent communication with their mission presidents, and every effort is being made to keep them safe,” the church statement added.
Anti-government protests over human rights have been going on for more than a month, with most ending in violent clashes.
Recent demonstrations have not been as violent as some earlier this month. But some student leaders have vowed to continue their campaign until the government meets their demands.
One of those demands is to release people arrested during protests.
