(KSL News) A Provo man who police say threatened to drive off a cliff with his three young children will undergo a mental competency exam.
Christopher Wayne Young faces three charges of attempted aggravated murder and three charges of child abuse and neglect.
Defense attorneys asked the judge for 30 days to evaluate Young's "diminished mental capacity," and the judge agreed.
Young took his children from their mother in April, saying he was going to the park. But later Young called the children's mother saying he was going to hurt himself and the children and that she would never see them again.
An Amber Alert was launched and police quickly located Young on a cliff near Point of the Mountain in Lehi.
