MYTON, Duchesne County — One person is dead after a crash early Monday morning involving an ATV and at least one pickup truck on U.S. 40 in Duchesne County.
The crash happened after 4 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 40 and 6250 South. It is being investigated by Bureau of Indian Affairs police because the man who died is an enrolled tribal member and the area where the crash happened is within the boundaries of the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation.
Bureau police were not releasing any information about the crash late Monday afternoon. However, multiple sources confirmed that James Victor Reed, of Arcadia, Duchesne County, died in the crash.
Investigators with the bureau and Utah Highway Patrol are working to determine whether Reed's ATV was hit by one pickup truck or two. They are also trying to establish if Reed, 19, was attempting to cross the highway, or was riding along the shoulder when he was hit.
No other injuries were reported in the crash, which closed one lane on U.S. 40 for a couple hours.
