NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Ashton Millender scored 16 points to lead Chicago Heights Marian Catholic past Geneva 45-34 on Saturday to take third place in the girls Class 4A state tournament.
Marian Catholic (28-5) took the lead on the first possession of the game and never relinquished it. Gabrielle Cooper added 10 points for the Spartans, while Millender grabbed seven rebounds.
The Vikings were led by Abby Novak's 13 points, while 6-2 freshman center Grace Loberg grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Marian Catholic, the defending Class 4A state champion, was pounded 60-40 by Chicago Whitney Young in a Friday semifinal rematch of last year's championship game. Geneva lost in Friday's semifinals to Rolling Meadows 51-43.
