RENO, Nev. (AP) — Two separate lawsuits accuse a Humboldt County Sheriff's deputy of stopping travelers on a lonely stretch of Interstate 80 to make illegal drug searches, and confiscating tens of thousands of dollars for the county without bringing charges. In one case, the suit says the deputy took a briefcase with $50,000. Lawyers for the county didn't immediately comment.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A judge is temporarily halting a raffle of the 27 puppies rescued from a Las Vegas pet shop that authorities say a woman and a man tried to torch. An attorney for one of the shop's owners says the auction amounts to theft and wants to dogs to go to a different non-profit group. A hearing will be held on Tuesday.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Clark County human resources analyst was found guilty of fraud and conspiracy for plotting to steal $824,000 from an auto insurance company. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Erik Holman was convicted of conspiring with former Henderson Municipal Court Judge John Provost to embezzle money from American Family Insurance between October 2005 and April 2009.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval has filed for second term, steamrolling into the 2014 election season sitting atop a huge campaign fund and no big name opponents. The first-term Republican says he intends to serve out his second term if re-elected and will focus on improving education, Nevada's mental health system and the economy.
