LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jared Brownridge scored 20 points Thursday night as ninth-seeded Santa Clara defeated No. 8 seed Pacific 81-64 and advanced to the West Coast Conference quarterfinals.
Recently named the WCC Newcomer of the Year, Brownridge made 4 of 8 from 3-point range, including one that capped a 15-6 run and gave Santa Clara (14-18) a 49-37 lead with 14:20 left in the second half.
From there, the Broncos continued to pull away from Pacific (15-15), building to their biggest lead at 70-49. Evan Roquemore had 17 points, Brandon Clark scored 15 and Jerry Brown added 12. Nate Kratch made all three of his 3-point attempts and SCU was 10 of 24 from long distance.
Sama Taku had 16 points and Tony Gill added 10 for Pacific, which shot just 4 of 18 from 3-point range and was outrebounded 37-28.
The Broncos will face top-seeded Gonzaga (25-6) on Saturday.
