HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (AP) — Pierria Henry scored 26 points as Charlotte held off a late rally and defeated Marshall on the road 74-70 in the regular-season finale on Thursday night.
Henry shot 50 percent (8 of 16) from the floor and hit three 3-pointers. Mike Thorne Jr. added 18 points, Willie Clayton chipped in 15, and both finished with 10 rebounds each. Charlotte closed the season with two wins after dropping six straight contests.
The 49ers (16-13, 7-9 Conference USA) led by 10 with 3:31 left, but Marshall cut the deficit to three points with 8 seconds remaining after Kareem Canty scored 10-straight points for the Thundering Herd. Canty missed a last-second 3-pointer and Charlotte grabbed the rebound to close out the game.
Canty led Marshall (10-21, 4-12) with 22 points and seven assists, and Chris Thomas added 17 points and nine rebounds.
