LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — The spring training game between the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies has been canceled because of rain.
The announcement was made a few minutes after the scheduled start of Thursday's game, with wet weather making its way across Florida. There were some fans who had come to the ballpark, but the tarp remained on the field and there were puddles all around the warning track.
Detroit's Justin Verlander was scheduled to make his first start of spring training against Philadelphia's split squad.
