WASHINGTON (AP) — The House has voted for a one-year delay in the penalty that people would have to pay if they fail to sign up for health insurance.

It was the 50th time that Republicans have forced a vote to repeal, gut or change the law championed by President Barack Obama.

Wednesday's vote was 250-160, and it came despite a veto threat.

The plan stands no chance in the Democratic-led Senate.

Republicans say the breaks granted businesses in delaying penalties for failing to cover employees should apply to average Americans.

Democrats shot back that the GOP has no viable alternative to the law.

The vote reflected election-year political maneuvering as Republicans made Democrats go on record on the issue.
