PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Bryce Cotton hit two free throws with 7.2 seconds remaining in double overtime to lift Providence to a critical 81-80 victory over Marquette Tuesday night.

PC (20-10, 10-7 Big East) trailed by one in the second overtime when Cotton was fouled by Marquette's Derrick Wilson. The senior calmly made both to cap a night where he scored 25 points, 13 coming at the line.

Needing to make one more defensive stand, the Friars got it as Todd Mayo missed a potential game-winning shot as time expired. Mayo led the Golden Eagles (18-12, 9-8) with 26 points and 11 rebounds.

LaDontae Henton had 20 points and 16 rebounds for the Friars while Josh Fortune added 15 points. Kadeem Batts had 12 points before fouling out in the first overtime.

Davante Gardner finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for Marquette while Jamil Wilson had 11 points and 14 rebounds.
