ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) — Jordan Aaron and Steve McWhorter combined to score 31 points to power No. 5-seed Milwaukee past No. 8 Detroit in a Horizon League tournament opener Tuesday.
The Panthers opened a 42-28 lead in the first half and rode it to the finish.
The two teams almost matched each other shot-for-shot. Milwaukee (18-13) was 25 of 49 from the field (51 percent) while Detroit (13-19) was 24 of 47 (51.1 percent). The difference came from long range, where Milwaukee was 9 of 25 while the Titans were 5 of 13.
Aaron was 5 of 16 for 16 points to lead Milwaukee. McWhorter had 15 points while Kyle Kelm, Cody Wichmann and JeVon Lyle added 13, 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Juwan Howard Jr. scored 21 points to lead Detroit, with Matthew Grant and Evan Bruinsma adding 16 and 14 points, respectively.
