Fattah Statement on the President's 2015 Budget Proposal
WASHINGTON, March 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka
Fattah (D-PA), Senior Member of the House Appropriations Committee and
Ranking Member on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce,
Justice, Science (CJS) and related agencies, released the following
statement on President Obama's FY 2015 budget:
"The President's FY 2015 budget offers a sound and strategic roadmap
for our country, grounded in the belief that opportunity is for all,
not just a select few. From expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit to
prioritizing educational access and boosting domestic manufacturing
initiatives, President Obama demonstrated his commitment to ensuring
America has a robust economy, strengthened by a 21st century workforce
and a thriving middle class.
"The President's 2015 Budget reflected many of our shared priorities,
including investments in the life sciences, new funding and research
grants for neuroscience, expanding college access and affordability,
support for space exploration and technology, and reviving the federal
Housing Trust Fund with a mandatory $1 billion appropriation. His
budget also calls for a permanent extension of the American
Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC), a piece of legislation I introduced
five years ago and that is currently set to expire in 2017. AOTC seeks
to make higher education more affordable for America's hardworking
families and students and extending it will benefit more than 11
million students, providing an average of $1,100 in credits.
"This budget provides a strong foundation towards expanding
opportunity for every American. I look forward to working alongside
the Administration, Congress, and my colleagues on the Appropriations
Committee to help shape our country's spending priorities for the year
ahead."
