(KSL NewsRadio) -- The parents of a drug overdose victim want witnesses to be subject to a new law.

Michael and Georgia Martinez think the people who witnessed their son's death could have saved him had they called 9-1-1 when they noticed he was in distress. Instead, they waited and then eventually dumped the 18-year-old's body at the Point of The Mountain.

"Why did nobody call 9-1-1? Even after he died, they didn't have the respect enough even to call 9-1-1 then."

The Martinez family is now asking for a law that would require people to intervene in such cases or face additional penalties. They say they've already collected hundreds of signatures in support of such a law.
