Lance Bandley ReportingCities in the southwest part of Salt Lake County now have a new source for their water supply.
With the tap of a button, the first water from the Bingham Canyon Water treatment plant was released.
"Water is now flowing in a pipeline east and west from this direction and will be serving the fast growing communities of southwestern Salt Lake County," says Richard Bay with the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District.
Bay says the treatment plant extracts water from the aquifers and uses reverse osmosis to clean up the water in the mining area.
Bay was the first to test it out.
"That's excellent water," said Bay after taking a sip.
The water will mainly serve West Jordan, South Jordan, Riverton and Herriman.
