PARK CITY, Utah (AP) -- Rob Weyher, chairman of the Summit County Democratic Party, has pleaded not guilty to drunken driving, assault on a police officer, interfering with a police officer, disorderly conduct and speeding.
The misdemeanor charges stem from an April 28 traffic stop near Kimball Junction.
The plea was entered Tuesday before 3rd District Judge Bruce Lubeck, who set a June 27 pretrial conference for 9 a.m.
Defense attorney Stephanie Matsumura declined comment Tuesday, but another Weyher attorney, Joe Tesch, said previously that the arrest was a misunderstanding.
Weyher was arrested when a Utah Highway Patrol trooper smelled alcohol on his breath, according to UHP Lt. Doug McCleve. After field-sobriety tests, Weyher became combative, McCleve said.
The county Democratic committee voted on May 8 to retain the 54-year-old chairman.
