SALT LAKE CITY — A man who police say tried to attack an employee at a homeless shelter and then police was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Tuesday.
Just before noon, Salt Lake police were called to the homeless shelter, 210 S. Rio Grande St., where a man refused to stand in line for services and then shoved an employee with two hands, said detective Veronica Montoya.
"And then he attempted to punch him several times. Other people in line held him back," she said. When officers arrived, the man continued to be uncooperative.
"Officers found that the suspect still refused to leave and wanted to fight with them," a police report states.
The man resisted arrest and would not let the officers put handcuffs on him, Montoya said. He was "kicking and swinging" at officers, she said, forcing them to use a Taser on him.
Juma Paul Sikeyo, 32, was arrested for investigation of assault on a police officer, assault, interfering with an arresting officer, assault by prisoner and several warrants.
In November, Sikeyo was charged with similar crimes of interfering with an arresting officer, battery and disorderly conduct, according to Salt Lake City Justice Court records.
