ROOSEVELT — A $75,000 warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Roosevelt contractor accused of failing to withhold taxes from his employees' paychecks since 2006.
Jeremy J. Harris, 37, is charged in 3rd District Court with one count each of tax evasion, unlawful dealing with property by a fiduciary and engaging in a pattern of unlawful activity, all second-degree felonies. He also faces one count of failure to render a proper tax return, a third-degree felony.
“Over the course of many years, the defendant failed to file any withholding tax returns even though W-2 forms were issued to employees,” Utah State Tax Commission spokesman Charlie Roberts said in a statement announcing the charges.
“Those W-2s were used by employees with their individual returns and in many cases refunds were issued,” Roberts added.
Harris, doing business as J. Harris Construction, has a state tax liability in excess of $160,000, including penalties and interest, Roberts said. A date for Harris' first court appearance has not been scheduled.
