(KSL News) Impact fees for new construction could increase dramatically in St. George under a proposal before the City Council.
Fees for new construction of single residential units could increase 26 percent. Those fees would pay for water, wastewater, storm drain, transportation, power, fire and police, and parks and recreation.
New commercial projects such as grocery stores, restaurants and office buildings could face impact-fee increases of up to 100 percent or more.
The city needs to increase the fees because of the area's phenomenal growth. Washington County is the nation's fifth-fastest growing county, with a growth rate of 8 percent.
The city last updated one impact fee, for storm drains, in 2001. But some fees have not been updated since 1994.
