SALT LAKE CITY — The American people are seeing a new side of former presidential candidate Mitt Romney. A documentary showcasing the life of the Romneys during the campaign is now available on Netflix, and has so far been a very popular hit.

Mitt Romney's son, Josh, spoke with KSL News Tuesday about the documentary “Mitt”, which takes a personal look at Mitt Romney's presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012. Josh Romney said if the nation had seen this side of his dad before the election, he likely would be president of the United States today.

“Knowing that, you know, he has no further political ambition, they can see that this is just purely a film that's been released by another person and not part of an agenda or propaganda. This is just life as it was on the campaign trail,” Josh Romney said.

Filmmaker Greg Whitely had unprecedented access to the Romney campaign while creating the documentary.

“You know there’s some moments there that were a lot of fun to watch, some that were really painful to watch,” Josh Romney said. “Reliving the election night was one of the harder moments of my life, just having to go through and having to watch them again were tough.”

While he believes the country is worse off now than if his father had been elected president, Josh Romney said his mom and dad are happier than ever.

Deseret News:

Most of the reviews have focused on the human side of Mitt Romney portrayed in the film, and one article about the film said the portrayal is that of an "ideal Mormon husband."

Josh Romney said he hopes that if people take anything from the film, they can see how loving his father is; and that even running for president of the United States, the thing he cared about the most was still his family.
