Sandra Yi and Andrew Adams reportingSchools in Davis County are on alert after a student says a man tried to lure him in to his car.

It happened yesterday at West Clinton Elementary School in Clinton.

The man reportedly walked up to the playground near the kids. The school has ordered a fence to enclose it. They're also going to install security cameras to make sure the kids are safe at the school.

Michele Tremblay is proud of her son and his classmates. "They did what was right. They went in and told an adult," Michele says.

Yesterday afternoon, 8-year-old Jordan was playing outside during recess. He says a man parked in the lot near the field got out of his car and approached him. Jordan says, "He pointed at me and said to come here. He said, ‘I've got something for you.'"

Jordan says he warned his classmates and ran straight to his teacher. He says that's what his parents taught him to do. "They taught me that you don't want to go in a car and you don't want to listen to a stranger."

His father told KSL Newsradio, "You never know what could happen. You think that you live in a secure place, especially Clinton. Things like this happen everywhere. I'm glad that we've taught our children well."

Jordan's mom is glad the message sank in. She says all parents should talk to their kids. She says, "It's concerning that there are people out there that have this problem with children, and they don't listen to the common sense side of their head and think that's not right."

The school sent out phone messages to all the parents and e-mailed other schools in the district.

Today, we noticed a police officer keeping an eye on the area. But Michele Tremblay hopes what happened won't scare parents and kids, too much. She says, "We live in a safe community, and I think just something like this happens, it shouldn't make everybody afraid to do the normal every day stuff."

The school says several other students saw the man's car. It's described as a newer, white, four-door sedan with dark, tinted windows. It had temporary tags and blue flame striping near the front tire.

The man is described as being in his 40s with brown hair. He has a receding hairline on his front temples. He has a mullet style haircut with straight hair on top and curly on the bottom. If you have any information, call Clinton Police at 801-774-2630.
