WELLINGTON, Carbon — Nine individuals, including children, critically injured during a Saturday collision on U.S. Highway 6 are expected to recover, Utah High Patrol Trooper Lawrence Hopper said Sunday.
The accident occured shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday near mile marker 258 on Highway 6. A Chevy truck traveling west experienced a tire tread separation and veered into the eastbound lanes, where it was struck on its side by a Nissan Pathfinder.
Inside the truck were Lorana Alverado, 37, Ismarelda Lares, 11, Jose Lares, 6, Magdalina Lares, 8, and Nicholas Lares, 3.
Inside the Nissan were Jill Adair, 45, Hank Adair, 43, Brandon Adair, 17, and Lauryn Adair, 13.
All nine individuals were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
"They are expected to fully recover," Hopper said. "All of them."
Hopper said there is no indication that drugs, alcohol or excessive speed played a role in the crash. He said the driver of the Chevy appears to have simply been attempting to correct course after the tire separation.
"It wasn't through any negligence on the driver's end," he said.
