(KSL News) -- Salt Lake City leaders want parents to be more aware of what may be going on at upcoming graduation parties.
Last week the Mayor's Coalition on Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs sent out more than 6,000 letters warning parents about underage drinking at the parties.
Today they asked parents to lock up their liquor cabinets because 65 percent of kids get their alcohol from their parents.
Chris Burbank, Chief, Salt Lake City Police: "We have a hard time dealing with the distribution of alcohol through parents, through schoolmates and through other individuals' parents."
Salt Lake City Police will have extra officers looking for minors drinking or trying to buy alcohol during the graduation season.
