SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Immigration officials have deported a Mexican man suspected in the 2002 disappearance of his wife after they found him in Utah where they suspect he's been living for the last decade.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Andrew Munoz says agents escorted 40-year-old Ivan Tapia-Cacique this week from Utah to the U.S.-Mexico border crossing south of San Diego where they handed him over to Mexican authorities.
Tapia-Cacique is facing homicide charges in connection with the disappearance of his wife, Georgina Rocha-Lona, in 2002 in Mexico City.
Munoz says the agency arrested Tapia-Cacique near his home in Layton, Utah in October. He was being held in a county jail until his Tuesday deportation. They believe he's been living in Utah since fleeing Mexico in 2003.
