SALT LAKE CITY — Police have identified a man who died after being stabbed near the Salt Lake homeless shelter, but they are still looking for a suspect.

An ambulance was called on Nov. 20 for Willie D. Hollingsworth, 49, of Arizona, who was on the northeast corner of the shelter, 210 S. Rio Grande, with an unknown problem. It wasn't until Hollingsworth was examined by doctors at the hospital that they discovered he had been stabbed in the abdomen, according to police. Hollingsworth later died from his injuries.

Officers had not made any arrests as of Monday nor identified any suspects.

Hollingsworth was no stranger to police. He had been arrested by Salt Lake police more than 50 times since 2011, mostly for misdemeanor theft and alcohol-related crimes. He has more than 100 cases listed in Salt Lake courts since 2003.

Hollingsworth was convicted of felony sex abuse, a first-degree felony, in Arkansas in 1997, which made him subject to a lifetime registration on the sex offender registry, according to court records.

Anyone with information on Hollingsworth's death can call police at 801-799-3000.
