SPANISH FORK — SWAT responded to a domestic disturbance after a 15-year-old boy reported his grandfather threatened his mother with a gun Thursday, according to Spanish Fork police.

The grandfather and mother had been arguing before he threatened her with a gun, police said. Officers were dispatched at 12:45 p.m. to the home near Center Street.

The boy and his mother were able to leave safely, but the grandfather remained in the home with his weapon, leading to a short standoff with SWAT officers.

He eventually surrendered and was taken into custody unharmed, said Spanish Fork Police Lt. Johnson. The grandfather is being interviewed to determine appropriate charges, Johnson said.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
