HILL AIR FORCE BASE — A vehicle that was possibly carrying an illegal substance was released from detainment following a miscommunication, Hill Air Force Base officials say.
Monday morning, an unauthorized Chevy Cavalier entered the Roy gate of HAFB. As it turned around on base, gate guards stopped the vehicle and, seeing possible contraband in the vehicle, detained its four occupants and searched the vehicle.
During the 30-minute search, guards found a “tobacco-like, possibly illegal, substance,” Andrea Mason, director of Team Hill Public Affairs.
While the car was detained, security forces operation staff were relayed inaccurate information about the search. Staff released the vehicle and its occupants based on the information.
“There was a miscommunication, and we have reviewed our procedures to prevent this from recurring again,” a press release from HAFB said.
