(KSL News) According to a federal study, a child is reported missing every 40 seconds in the U.S. Police officers say an up-to-date photo is one of the most important tools they have in searching for missing children.
Federal law enforcement agents helped parents prepare identification kits for their children today at Hogle Zoo.
The free kits include two photos, the child's fingerprints and even a hair sample in case DNA is needed.
Tim Chard/ Federal Agent: "It's probably the best thing they could ever have for their children. If a child comes up missing this is what they need to have available for the law enforcement officers."
The officers also gave the parents a disk with a digital picture of the child and identifying information so that the child's information can be immediately distributed without wasting time to scan, copy and resize a regular photo.
