DUCHESNE —The Duchesne Eagles were looking to extend their state record of 41 consecutive wins on Friday night against the Rich Rebels.

What they got was their toughest game of the season.

The excitement began on the opening drive. Duchesne quarterback Trent Roberts fumbled the ball and Rich would recover. It didn't take them long to capitalize. Junior running back Cache Sabey punched in the 13-yard run for the 7-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Duchesne junior running back Dylan Despain would score on a 1-yard run. A missed PAT by Braxton Spencer kept Rich with the lead at 7-6.

That missed extra-point by Spencer would play a big role later in the game.

Sabey would add a 5-yard touchdown run and McKay Jarman would connect with Caden Barthlome on a 6-yard touchdown pass that would give Rich the unexpected 19-7 lead at the half.

Duchesne came out strong in the third quarter. Trent Roberts 1-yard quarterback sneak cut the Rich lead to 19-13.

Still in the third, Braxton Spencer would make the play of the game. McKay Jarman tried to pitch the ball, but Spencer stepped in front of the toss and intercepted it. Spencer ran 66-yards for the touchdown to tie the game at 19-19.

Having missed an extra-point earlier in the game, Spencer had to kick the extra point to take the lead.

"Coaches told me not to miss and I didn't," said Spencer.

That PAT would give Duchesne the 20-19 lead and that was how the game would end.

"Coach told us all year long that we're going to be down in some games. Everybody kept a high head and we pushed through it," said Spencer.
